BIG CATFISH OF TOURNAMENT

Here is the report of a catfish tournament form April 4th. 2009. It was held on the Ohio River in the Cincinnati area. There were 18 boats the fished for 7 hours that Saturday. the Ohio was muddy and high and lots of current pushing drift with it. The boats took off at 08:15,most heading down river from the starting point. Only about 5 went up river from what I saw from the bank.

These guys lucked out for the sun was out and mild temperatures. No wind to fight at all. The strong current and large amount of drift was the real problem they had to deal with on the water. The guy that I fish with at night from his boat was partnered up with his dad for this tournament. I talked to him before he launched his boat, took some photos of the launch.

I returned to the event to check out how the guys did in such hard fishing conditions. Only about 3-4 boat caught their limit of 4 cats. A number of the boats came in skunked, which made for a long hard day on the water. Some of the teams boated 1 or 2 fish. My friend and his dad caught only ONE fish. They had very little action since there were only 2 other bites other than the fish that was boated. They were not totally down for it was a BIG blue cat28.6pounds! That fish was caught by my friend's dad. The battle lasted for 20 minutes to get it in the boat with that big of fish and strong current boat. The two teams that had their limit of cats came in 1st & 2nd place of the prize money. My friend and his dad got the big fish prize money and 3rd. place over all prize money.
