September 29,2004! I stopped by the mouth of the Licking River to see if any shad or skip jacks were in the area. I leaned over the railing and saw a guy fishing. I noticed he had a stringer in the water. I said what kind of fish did you catch. He replied a Channel cat 22 pounds 10 Ounces! I realized not many channel cats get that large around this area. I climbed down to the bank to see the fish; he was a one of big cat. The Guy that caught the fish is named Bill. He fishes that same spot all season long. I drove home and got my digital camera to get some photos of the monster.
When I returned Bill informed me what he used to catch this and other cats this season. He uses White Castle CHICKEN RINGS! He breaks them up and slides them on the hook. He said they stay on the hook very well. The left overs he put in the refigerator and uses them later. I got out my tape measure and the cat was 34 inches long. He is one of the biggest Channel cats I have ever seen from this area.

Kentucky and Ohio considers Skipjacks rough fish!! This means they can be caught in seines or casting
nets for bait. Seeking spots in the DOWNTOWN CINCINNATI area for using a casting net to get bait on either side of the Ohio river. Here is a page of PLACES for Skipjack & Shad that I have learned about.
