TO have a CHEAP battery for a portable fish finder this is I set up for my portable fish finder. I have a small 14ft. vee bottom fishing boat. I am very limited for space in the back end with gas can and anchor. I do NOT have room for a regular 12 volt battery. I came up with a cheap way to power the fish finder and save space at the same time.

Buy 2 small 6 volt flash light batteries, at a local discount store. I got mine at a Big Lot's for about $2 each. Next wire them together in series to provide a 12 volt supply. Connect the power cord to the fish finder as with a normal hook up. This saves a lot of money, space, and no heavy weight to lug to and from the boat.

Another option is to get a small rechargeable motor cycle battery or a regular small rechargeable 12 volt battery for Basspro. You do need a regular battery charger a for them. Just check out the voltage level afer each trip. If it is low then charge it back up to the 12 volt level.

I use my fish finder when ever I want to check out a certain area of the river. Normally it is OFF 90 percent of the time I am on the water. I get a number of trips with this set up before I have to buy more batteries.
