SUMMARY OF MY 2006 CATFISHING TRIPS

Here is the summary of my 2006 catfishing season. I started my season on March 30th., ending in early October. I boated a total of 43 catfish,4 carp 1 striper. I did catch a new persoal best twice in an hour on October 4th. A 20 pound flathead at 10:00 ,then a big brother of 44 pounds at 10:55! Both hit on shad I netted that morning.

For the year I caught

4 Blue cats. The largest was 15 pounds

6 Flatheads. The largest was 44 pounds

32Channel Cats The largest was 11.9 pounds

4 Carp The largest was 8.5 pounds

1 striper It was a small one

The best day of this year for total of fish caught was August 6th. I boated 10 fish that trip. 7 channel cats and 3 carp. Fish 4 times at night but caught only 1 catfish!. I fished with some new fishing pals in their large boat. They DID catch fish on those trips even when I was watching.

The Ohio River was just too high to fish from mid October though November. That really put a crimp to Fall fishing I had looked forward to enjoying. There was also a very low number of shad and skipjacks all summer and fall compared to 2005. Hopefully those bait fish will show up in good numbers so I can net them for bait.

My boat is covered for the year. I Will be checking out my fishing bag to see what needs to replenished. May need to put some new line on a couple reels.

BAITS USED

Tuna blood vein,

Seasoned SHRIMP; raw steak

Fried Chicken skin

Cut Skipjack

Cut Gizzard Shad

Chicken liver

Over the year I was SKUNKED around 5 times. That is one thing I want to reduce next year. I normally fish around 4 ½ hours per trip. I believe if the fish are biting that will give me plenty of action. If the fish have lock jaw that day then, I pack it in and head home. I intend to stock up on some more skipjacks for my freezer during February and March.
